Mr John Gregory Conceicao assumed the position of Executive Director, Southeast Asia in June 2019, where he leads the overall operations of STB in Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Brunei. He also oversees all strategic planning and execution of marketing activities within these markets to champion Singapore as a compelling tourist destination.
Prior to this role, John served as International Relations & Market Planning & Oceania from January 2015 to May 2019. In this role, John was responsible for the strategic planning of operations in the regional offices, and oversees marketing and promotional efforts of Singapore as a compelling tourist destination within the Oceania markets. He also led a team to work with in-market industry partners and overseas consumers, as well as monitor competitive activities and support the development of bi- or multi-lateral agreements to drive tourism growth.
John has held several other leadership positions since joining STB in 2003. He served as Executive Director, Capability & Innovation and Visitor Information & Feedback where he led his teams in planning and managing the manpower skills and development needs for the various tourism industry sectors. He also helmed the Visitor Information & Feedback team to enhance the experience of visitors to Singapore through a customised and user-centric approach across all STB touch points. Prior to that, John was Regional Director, Europe from March 2010. In this portfolio, he oversaw the operations and in-market activities that were carried out by STB’s Frankfurt, London and Moscow regional offices to promote Singapore as a compelling destination. In addition, he was responsible for leveraging the strengths of the European markets in contributing to the overall tourism industry development in Singapore.
Previously, John was also Director of the Strategic Planning & Innovation, Manpower Development and the Education Services Divisions. In these positions, he helmed several key projects, including the development of the tourism industry masterplan, as well as growing the Singapore Education brand. His leadership in the latter contributed towards the inter-agency target of attracting 150,000 international students to Singapore.
Prior to joining STB, John served in various educational capacities with the Ministry of Education. During his stint at St Joseph’s Institution, John took on the Assistant Principal portfolio and was responsible for innovative curriculum development and marketing of the institution overseas.
John was a recipient of the Public Service Commission Scholarship and completed his undergraduate studies at the National University of Singapore, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (Upper Honours). He later completed his Master of Arts at the Nanyang Technological University under a Eurasian Association Scholarship. In addition, he possesses a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education. John has also attended the Tourism Industry Management programme at the University of Hawaii, Manoa.
